Brick Street Poetry Inc. will be publishing three volumes of an anthology titled The Polaris Trilogy which will be launched in a time capsule aboard the Space X flight scheduled to depart for the South Pole of the Earth’s Moon in 2023.
We are aiming to find a new poem from each country on earth for inclusion in a series of anthologies that will be part of The Polaris Collection of the Lunar Codex Project, three cosmic time capsules of art, music, and poetry curated by Philippine-Canadian physicist and author Samuel Peralta. Our Polaris Anthologies will be part of the payload of the SpaceX Astrobotic Technologies’ Griffin Lander scheduled to be on the moon by the summer of 2023. Peralta has asked Joyce Brinkman, the inaugural Poet Laureate of Indiana to be lead editor of the Polaris Anthologies through Brick Street Poetry, an Indiana, 501-(c)-(3) organization that promotes poetry locally through a wide variety of projects that bring poetry to the general public. Brick Street publishes the Tipton Poetry Journal and other publications like this anthology series which connect poets worldwide with the global public and each other. Brinkman was chosen in part because she has done collaborative work with other poets internationally.
The first of the three Polaris Anthologies will be edited by poet and professor Joe Heithaus of DePauw University and will seek work from Africa and Europe with the earthly themes of Rock, Air, and Water. The second anthology edited by Joyce Brinkman will include work from Asia, North and Central America with the theme of Stars, Sun, and Moon. The third anthology edited by poet and science writer Jessica Reed of Butler University will seek work from South America, Australia, and Antarctica with the themes of Ice, Wind, and Fire.
